What is Retort Packaging
A retort pouch is a type of food packaging made from a laminate of flexible plastic and metal foils. It allows the sterile packaging of a wide variety of food and drink handled by aseptic processing, and is used as an alternative to traditional industrial canning methods.
Here are some of the many benefits of retort pouch salmon over other forms of packaging:
1. Convenience - No refrigeration is needed before the packaging is opened. This provides for a much longer shelf life of the package contents. Our retort pouch salmon has a shelf life of 5 years from day of production! The packaging is a ready-to-eat style....slim and flexible and makes for a great snack options for people on the run. It stores easily in your cupboards or pantry and makes for an easy to ship gift! The shelf life makes it a great addition for camping, rations and emergency kits.
2. Natural Fillet Form - Retort packaging allows the fish meat to retain its natural fillet form throughout the production process. This makes retort salmon a better option for presentation when serving with platters and hors d'oeuvres.
3. Health Benefits - Retort salmon loses nothing during the thermal process. The portion of salmon inside the pouch is literally cooked in it's own natural juices and all the nutrient rich oils that are in the meat are still present after the cooking process. Even the juice itself is loaded with nutrients. Among others, Salmon is a great source of Protein, Omega 3 and Potassium.
All of our salmon is wild-caught pacific salmon. All natural ingredients. In most cases there is nothing more than the fish, salt, sugar and natural hardwood smoke. Any additional ingredients, such as Pure Canadian Maple Syrup, are all natural!
The fish is cold smoked at 86˚F with the blended wood chip mixture. All production is completed by hand.

Every pouch is inspected and sensory evaluations are performed on samples from every cook that takes place.
